Crafted from black walnut salvaged from the yard of Las Vegas, New Mexico artist Bob Reed, this bench preserves the character of a tree that stood for over a century before succumbing to the drought of 2015.
The wood, Juglans nigra (black walnut), retains its natural grain and aging patterns, shaped into a solid slab measuring 6 feet long, 14 inches wide, and 3 inches thick. The piece stores an estimated ~8–10 kg of CO₂, preserving the carbon captured during the life of the tree.
Constructed for long-term durability and finished with a hand-rubbed lacquer system, each piece is digitally documented to preserve the history of the tree and its transformation.
